Production Cost Comparison: Circular Knitted Fabrics vs Woven Fabrics

Circular knitted fabrics and woven fabrics are two mainstream textile materials for apparel and functional clothing, with obvious differences in production processes, equipment investment and comprehensive production costs.
Overall, circular knitted fabrics have lower comprehensive production costs than woven fabrics. Circular knitting machines feature high automation, fast weaving speed and high production efficiency, which can realize mass continuous production. The process flow is simpler, with fewer post-processing procedures, lower labor and time costs, and lower defective rate in mass production. It is very suitable for large-batch production of sportswear, casual wear and functional fabrics.
By contrast, woven fabrics adopt crisscross warp and weft weaving structure, with complex production processes, slower weaving speed and higher equipment and technical threshold. Its labor input and unit time cost are higher, resulting in higher overall production costs. However, woven fabrics have better structural stability, higher density and stronger wear resistance, which are suitable for high-standard formal clothes and industrial textiles with strict structural requirements.
In terms of finishing cost, conventional functional finishing of circular knitted fabrics is more mature and cost-effective; while woven fabrics need higher-cost shaping and fixing processes to ensure dimensional stability. For small-batch customized orders, the cost gap between the two is narrowed, but circular knitted fabrics still have obvious cost advantages in large-scale standardized production.
